As dificuldades sexuais enfrentadas pelo casal e que não são esclarecidas podem afetar o desejo sexual, a expressão sexual e a intimidade do individuo ou díade. A ausência de capacidade de associar a sexualidade à afetividade pode também provocar e prolongar um problema sexual, que por sua vez pode influenciar a auto-estima do indivíduo, com possíveis consequências nas relações familiares e sociais e amorosas.
Alguns fatores psicológicos podem prejudicar o desejo e expressão sexual do indivíduo, e explicar a disfunção sexual, tais como, stress, ansiedade, depressão, baixa auto-estima, conflitos na identidade sexual, crenças religiosas e familiares, crenças em mitos sexuais e experiências sexuais traumáticas, conflitos relacionais no casal, perda de atração pelo parceiro, problemas com a imagem corporal, e educação rígida, conservadora e/ou repressiva. Outras causas do âmbito físico compreendem alterações hormonais de gravidez e pós-parto, menopausa; hipo e hipertiroidismo; infecções ginecológicas; insuficiência renal; neoplasias; e medicação que consiste em anti-hipertensivos, neurolépticos, sedativos; antidepressivos; anticonvulsivos; agentes quimioterapêuticos; medicação utilizada para o glaucoma; e consumo de álcool e/ou drogas.
No caso das mulheres, os problemas sexuais mais frequentes são: vaginismo, aversão sexual, desejo sexual hipoativo, dispareunia, perturbação da excitação sexual e do orgasmo. No caso dos homens, os problemas sexuais mais frequentes são: dispareunia, desejo sexual hipoativo, disfunção eréctil, perturbação ejaculatória e inibição do orgasmo.
Como pode ajudar o acompanhamento psicológico?
O acompanhamento psicológico engloba uma avaliação e exploração detalhada da dificuldade ou disfunção sexual. O psicólogo ou psicóloga auxilia a aperfeiçoar a comunicação intra e interpessoal e possibilita o conhecimento de si mesmo e ultrapassagem dos obstáculos que vão surgindo, tais como: falta ou diminuição do desejo, dificuldade em alcançar ou manter a excitação e em alcançar ou não atingir o clímax, dor génito-pélvica contínua, dor e dificuldade da mulher durante a penetração, problemas em obter ou manter a ereção, experiências sexuais traumáticas, entre outros obstáculos.
